The Place of You, a solo exhibition by resident, Abagail Beddall
Opening Reception: Friday, November 6th, 7-10PM On View: 11/6-11/29 Artist Talk and Closing Dinner: Thursday, November 19th, 6-9PM Show Statement: The Place of You begins a new body of work by multi-media performance artist Abagail Beddall. From a collection of fabric that spans three generations of her matrilineal heritage, Beddall has composed day-wear costumes that when worn symbiotically activate both wearer and object as art. By design, the pieces draw on a utilitarian simplicity to maintain comfort while highlighting the fabrics that have traveled with Beddall her whole life, and allow them to live as a self-portrait. Each piece contains sections of fabric from different parts of the world where these three women have traveled. These sections are joined together to express the importance of multiculturalism in American culture and the empowerment of women worldwide. To archive the complete collection of fabrics, Beddall has made a scrap-book/catalogue which illustrates the origin of each piece. www.abagailbeddall.com Comments are closed.
