Secretive or sneaky behavior, or better yet, how I got to discover myself, my family, and understand being Chinese through the objects living in my family home.
" I think many of us in the diaspora or children of immigrants learn about ourselves this way, curiously but cautiously holding artifacts and precious possessions that our parents carried with them over here, precious, learning our history in trickles, in glimpses, in unspoken stories. Only looking when they’re looking, touching and examining during those glorious 2 hours after I get home from school and before they get home from work. Objects can lead the imagination to faraway places or take us back to familiar places."

Exhibition
偷偷摸摸 tōutōu mōmō
(b.1991, DC) is a Taiwanese-American craft artist who makes things you can touch. Curious about the diasporic migration of artifacts, her creations knock-off the objects of her Chinese-American upbringing, adopting strategies of collecting, appropriating, and deception towards generating sediment and exaggerating value. She draws from both personal and public archives to produce a range of reproductions (mis)translating these cultural curiosities into sculptural objects including but not limited to quilts, pillows, and ceramics. She has exhibited in Toronto’s Chinatown Biennial, released a line of goods at Wing on Wo & Co (NYC) and shown at SPACE, Seafoam Gallery, Irma Freeman Center, Associated Artists of Pittsburgh, and Pittsburgh International Airport. Currently, she is engaged in a Craft Fellowship at Bunker Projects which will culminate in a solo exhibition in March 2023. She has attended residencies at Soaring Gardens, Acre Residency and has upcoming residencies and exhibitions at the Icelandic Textile Center, Serlachius Residency (Finland), and Extreme Cold Air Festival (Hokkaido).
