Bunker Projects presents Utopia or Oblivion, a new installation by Kevin Clancy that explores the complex effects of rapid technological acceleration on contemporary culture. Through a series of speculative artifacts from imagined futures, Utopia or Oblivion examines the omnipresent forces of the internet, social media, surveillance, and screens in contemporary life. The exhibition will feature a series of new mixed-media sculptures, bathed in dichroic light, accompanied by a soundscape composed by John Also Bennett.

Funding for Utopia or Oblivion was provided by Investing in Professional Artists Grants Program, a partnership of The Pittsburgh Foundation and The Heinz Endowments.

Utopia or Oblivion

Clancy is an interdisciplinary artist working at the intersections of installation, sculpture, light, and new media. He creates accumulative process-based installations, nomadic social spaces, and prismatic light environments that provide momentary glimpses into utopian possibilities.

He has exhibited work at Mattress Factory (Pittsburgh), VIVO Media Arts Centre (Vancouver), Flux Factory (Queens), The Andy Warhol Museum (Pittsburgh), ILLUMINUS (Boston), Keleketla! Library (Johannesburg), Samsøn (Boston), West Virginia University (Morgantown), and Penn State University (State College).

He holds a BFA with Honors and Distinction from the Studio for Interrelated Media at Massachusetts College of Art and Design. He is a member of 3577 Studios and Associated Artists of Pittsburgh.
